Neighbor continuously parks truck on public boat ramp blocking anyone else from using it, then watches it roll straight into the lake: 'He had to deal with karma for his entitlement'

Homeowners' associations get a bad rap, but every once in a while (emphasis on 'once in a while'), they become the heroes of their own suburban soap opera. In this case, a gated Florida community with private lake access found itself at war with one resident who decided that rules—like not parking on the grass or blocking the boat ramp—didn't apply to him.

After ignoring multiple warnings and a pair of shiny new "No Parking" signs, he thought he'd outsmart the HOA by leaving his truck right at the bottom of the ramp. Technically not on the grass, technically not parked illegally... until it was.

When towing was finally called, the truck rolled backward into the lake, submerging itself up to the doors. No HOA meeting could have scripted it better.

  • There’s something deeply satisfying about a story where karma doesn’t need to be metaphorical. Florida has hurricanes, gators, and apparently, self-towing trucks. If only every case of suburban entitlement resolved itself this neatly, HOAs everywhere could take the afternoon off.

  • OP MN_crafter Exactly. Our HOA board works hard (without compensation) to improve our community. Putting in speed bumps (from Craigslist to reduce cost) to stop the idiots who insist on racing through the community and many other jobs that would need to be hired out. The HOA manager sends fines to people who don't clean up after dogs and leave junk in their yard, hires security, etc. I don't see the problem if it's all dealt with respectfully.   • sin_smith_3 I worked for a city that bordered a lake. We had no legal jurisdiction over the lake, but we would contribute emergency resources whenever needed. The lake was a reservoir and in our state, reservoirs are owned by the state. We would get a lot of complaints from our lake front properties about boaters fishing or idling too close to the property line, or people walking along the shore and "trespassing". Sorry.   • freerangelibrarian There's a place in Newport RI called the Cliff Walk. It was originally used by fishermen and the servants of the wealthy people who had mansions next to the ocean. The rich folks kept on putting up fences and barriers so they didn't have their view spoiled by working people. The barriers were torn down every time.
